Tuka is a cautious caribou who gets nervous any time that he has to do something new — be it his first day at school or having to perform in a talent show. Sometimes Tuka freezes in fright when he has to talk to people about the things that bug him. But Tuka has great friends, and they help him overcome his fears. He even learns to talk about how he’s feeling!
Miss Ilisaiji is the best teacher a kid could ask for—she is a kind, friendly, and mindful muskox. When her students have troubles in the classroom, Miss Ilisaiji is there to ask questions and really listen to what her students have to say. Best of all, she gives great advice for how to handle tough feelings.
Umi is a mighty muskox who loves to play hockey. He is imaginative but a tad forgetful, and sometimes that gets him into trouble. One day he forgets to include Aqi in a game of hockey, and that hurts Aqi’s feelings. Umi learns that it’s best to always include others and apologize when you’ve made a mistake.
Nauka might just be the most supportive seagull in all of Nunavut. He is really good at looking on the bright side of things, and his positivity is his secret weapon.
When his friend Tuka is having a hard time, Nauka helps Tuka change his perspective, to help him not worry as much about what others might think.
Natti is a fun-loving and soft-hearted seal who loves to encourage her friends. But sometimes Natti can be too affectionate, and that becomes a problem for her friend Tuka. Natti can’t help it—she loves her friends so much that she wants to show it!
Uka is an easily annoyed Arctic hare. Uka gets upset when things don’t go his way. Like the time when Sissi didn’t want to watch the same movie as him or when he got a bad grade on a test he thought he would ace. With the help of his friend Tiu-Tiu, Uka learns that it’s always best to calm down with a few deep breaths, and that one bad mark isn’t the worst thing that can happen, so long as you continue to learn from your mistakes and try to achieve good marks.
Taqu is a husky pup. Like many husky puppies, she is curious, and sometimes that gets her into trouble. Taqu accidentally breaks something important to Vivi’s family and has to learn to tell the truth and fix her mistakes. Later on, Taqu gets into trouble because she was easily distracted. Thankfully, Taqu learns to be more mindful and fixes her mistakes.
Vivi is a wonderfully hopeful walrus who loves to read and write. Vivi helps his friends learn valuable lessons, like how it is important to tell the truth and fix your mistakes. Vivi also helps Tiu-Tiu understand that not everyone can be good at each subject in school, and that’s ok.
Aqi is the new ptarmigan in town. She doesn’t have any friends, and that makes her feel lonely. She’s especially worried about not knowing anyone on the first day of school. Luckily things change when Aqi makes a new friend. Aqi still feels down sometimes, but as she explains to her new friend, sometimes it’s okay to feel sad.
Sissi is a short-tempered siksik who can be a bit grumpy. But it’s not her fault! She is worried about getting a new sibling, and sometimes her friends leave her out of their games. With help from her friend Tuka, Sissi learns that it’s ok to be upset, but being rude hurts others’ feelings.
Miki is a laid-back lemming who loves to read. He’s quiet, and when he doesn’t have his nose in a book, you can usually find him encouraging his friends and giving really good advice when it comes to tough emotional problems. Miki is wise beyond his years, and he helps his friends learn to wait their turn, forgive others, and stay calm in difficult moments.
Tiu-Tiu is a small but spirited snow bunting. Sometimes she can get really angry, really fast. Patience isn’t her best skill either. But Tiu-Tiu’s friends are always there to help her through the tough times. Miki teaches Tiu-Tiu how to wait her turn, and later that helps Tiu-Tiu teach Uka to stay calm when he has big emotions, too.
