Sing about your feelings

This activity entails singing the classic kids’ song “If you’re happy and you know it”, but instead of using the normal lyrics, you can change the verses to a new emotion each time.

You can start with the normal lyrics about being happy:

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!
If you’re happy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands!

Then you can move on to different emotions, such as:

Grumpy: If you’re grumpy and you know it, cross your arms
Mad: If you’re mad and you know it, stomp your feet
Excited: If you’re excited and you know it, jump up and down
Nervous: If you’re nervous and you know it, shake your hands
Worried: If you’re worried and you know it, bite your lip
Sad: If you’re sad and you know it, slump your shoulders
Calm: If you’re calm and you know it, take a deep breath
Annoyed: If you’re annoyed and you know it, roll your eyes

The best part about singing this song is that you can encourage children to call out emotions and have them make up different ways to act out those feelings. Children will love the ability to be creative and to act out in dramatic and silly ways.
